What Is a Sharing Request?

A Sharing Request is the method through which EverTrust HealthShare members submit their medical expenses to be considered for sharing by the community. Unlike traditional insurance models that use annual deductibles, EverTrust operates on a per-member, per-medical-need basis. This means that each Sharing Request includes all medical bills related to a single condition, illness, or incident.

A Sharing Request should be submitted as soon as you incur medical expenses that will exceed your selected Member Responsibility Amount. Once your Member Responsibility Amount has been met, eligible medical expenses may be shared by the community.

Review The Member Guidelines

The Member Guidelines explain the types of medical expenses that are eligible for sharing with the EverTrust Community and the types that are not. Reviewing the Member Guidelines is the easiest way to determine whether your medical need will be eligible for sharing or if it is your responsibility as a member.

Using Self-Pay as an EverTrust Member

As an EverTrust member, you will present yourself as a self-pay, or cash-pay, patient when receiving medical care. This approach helps reduce overall healthcare costs for both you and the community. While provider processes may vary, following these guidelines will help you navigate the billing process more effectively.

Preventive Sharing Requests

Preventive Sharing Requests are only available if preventive sharing was selected during enrollment. The availability and scope of preventive sharing will vary based on your membership, so you should refer to your Member Portal or contact EverTrust HealthShare for clarification.

Emergency Room Visits

If you need to visit the emergency room, you should inform the provider that you are a self-pay patient. You should also request any available self-pay or prompt-pay discounts. It is important not to present healthcare ID cards. You may pay up to your Member Responsibility Amount (MRA) directly to the provider either at the time of service or after you receive your bill. After your visit, you should open a Sharing Request as soon as it is convenient and submit your bills to EverTrust as you receive them.

Outpatient Care

Outpatient care includes services such as doctor visits, urgent care, imaging, and therapy. If you are submitting or already have an approved Sharing Request, you should present yourself as a self-pay patient and request any available discounts. You may also contact EverTrust HealthShare to inquire about prepayment options or assistance with payments at the time of service.

Maternity

As soon as you have confirmation of your pregnancy, be sure to submit a Maternity Sharing Request to EverTrust. We have a Maternity Guide that will help you understand the process, and our team is here to assist you with any questions throughout the process. Be sure to let all of your providers know that you are a self-pay patient.

Determination Process

Once EverTrust receives your Sharing Request, it is reviewed in accordance with our Member Guidelines. Submitting medical records with your request is strongly recommended, as they help ensure an accurate and timely review. In some cases, medical records are required to proceed. These records can typically be accessed through your provider’s patient portal or requested directly from your provider.

Key Reminders

You should submit your Sharing Request as early as possible to avoid delays in processing. You should always request itemized bills from your providers and keep copies of all receipts and documentation. You should review the Member Guidelines to confirm eligibility and submit documents to us as you receive them from your providers.
