How to Use the EverTrust Virtual Debit Card to Pay Your Medical Expenses

The EverTrust virtual debit card is a temporary, unique payment method generated specifically for an approved Sharing Request. Members can conveniently pay eligible medical expenses at the time of service or for bills already incurred, provided an itemized bill has been submitted and approved.

The card is pre-loaded with funds based on the shareable amount outlined in your Sharing Request determination and in accordance with the Member Guidelines.

How Does the Virtual Debit Card Work?

Before a virtual debit card can be issued, your Member Responsibility Amount (MRA) must be fully met. This is a key step in the sharing process, as eligible expenses are only considered for sharing after your portion of payment has been satisfied.

Once your Sharing Request has been reviewed and approved, and your MRA has been met, EverTrust Health Share can issue a virtual debit card for a member to pay eligible medical bills.

When and How You Will Receive It

Upon approval of your Sharing Request, you can request to receive the virtual debit card via email.

Because the card is issued for a specific purpose, it is time-sensitive and must be used promptly, typically within one to two days of issuance. If the card is not used within that timeframe, it will expire and any unused funds will revert back to the EverTrust community.

How to Use the Card

The virtual debit card can be used similarly to a standard debit or credit card. Members may use the card to:

  • Pay providers at the time of service
  • Pay medical bills
  • Cover eligible expenses tied directly to the approved Sharing Request

You can provide the card information directly to your provider or enter it through their billing portal. After using the card, members must submit a payment receipt to confirm how the funds were applied.

Important Guidelines

To ensure proper use and avoid delays:

  • Only use the card for approved, eligible expenses associated with your Sharing Request
  • Do not share your card information with anyone unauthorized
  • Confirm the payment amount with your provider before processing
  • Submit receipts promptly after use

Any additional services or charges not included in the original determination may require further review before they are eligible for sharing.

If you receive additional bills after your initial payment, they should be submitted through the additional document submission on the website or emailed to EverTrust for review.

Understanding Pre-Payments

In some cases, EverTrust may assist with pre-payments for eligible medical services. Self-pay patients will usually be asked by providers to prepay for scheduled surgeries. This will involve multiple bills that will include the surgeon, facility, and anesthesia.

Pre-payment allows members to submit medical expenses for review before care is received. If approved, sharing may be applied upfront to help reduce the financial burden at the time of service.

To ensure a smooth process, all submitted documentation, such as Good Faith Estimates, must be accurate and complete when requesting pre-payment consideration.

Why This Matters

The virtual debit card is designed to simplify the payment process and ensure that approved funds are applied directly to eligible medical expenses. By requiring the MRA to be met first and limiting the card to approved services, EverTrust maintains a fair and consistent sharing process for all members.

The Bottom Line

The virtual debit card is a convenient tool that allows members to pay for approved medical expenses quickly and efficiently. By understanding when it is issued, how to use it, and the importance of meeting your MRA first, you can ensure a smooth and successful sharing experience.
